Introduction to Irises
Iris diaphragms serve numerous applications in optical systems. The tab and pin actuated models can be used as variable field stops, system f-number controllers and constant energy beam diameter reducers. These smooth action iris diaphragms are all fabricated in black anodized, corrosion resistant frames containing springsteel leaves. They are designed to provide a nearly circular aperture through the range of operational diameters and an extremely long life of worry-free operation. Fully closed iris diaphragms (also known as zero-aperture diaphragms), used in applications that require total light blockage, are also available.
